Bhadrachalam flood is expected to cross the second warning level of 48 feet at Godavari by 1 pm on Friday. It touched 47.5 ft at 11 am, according to Bhavesh Misra, sub collector.Quoting the CWC forecast, he said the flood level may rise up to 50 ft, before it recedes. He added that the second warning is more or less a notional one intended to put the official machinery on alert and at this level, the flood will not have major impact on life.

The administration is fully geared up to meet the situation even if it crossed the danger level (third warning level of 53 ft) which a remote possibility if the rainfall as of now in the catchment is taken into consideration. The sudden rise in the flood level at Bhadrachalam was attributed backwater effect caused by flash flood in Sabari, one of its lower basin tributaries, which has blocked flood discharge from the main river. Many of the tribal villages in the erstwhile Khammam district, that were merged with AP in 2014 have been marooned due to flood in Sabari.
