Kaleshwaram Lift irrigation Scheme (KLIS) achieved yet another milestone with the successful completion of the wet run of its second pumping unit in package 6 near Nandi Medaram. Chief Secretary, S K Joshi switched on the unit after performing the formal Puja rituals at 3.30 pm. Minutes after it was off to a trouble -free start, pumping unit 1 (that had the wet run trial on Wednesday) was also put to operation.

Both the pumps of 124.4 MW capacity were operated simultaneously for about 20 minutes in the presence of the senior officials of the project. Two pumping units together could lift 6400 cusecs ( 3200 cusecs X 2) of water from the surge pool to the delivery cisterns.

The surge pool was impounded up to a height of 141.75 metres on the occasion. The water pumped out from the surge pool was released into the Nandimedaram reservoir.
