Six people from the city are feared dead

Hyderabad: Six people from the city are feared dead when the sports utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in lost control and fell into the Nagarjuna Sagar left canal, near Chakirala, in the Suryapet district.


The victims — Abdul (45 years), Rajesh (29), Johnson (33), Santosh Kumar (23), Naresh, (35) and Pavan Kumar (23) — reportedly residents of Secunderabad, were working at a private hospital in the city. They were returning to the city after attending a wedding of one of their friends at Chakirala.


The initial reports from the police indicate that the driver lost control of the speeding vehicle, which fell into the canal. The Nadigudem police said that they were facing difficulty in carrying out rescue operations due to poor lighting and a heavy current in the canal.


After learning about the mishap, D. Amoy Kumar, district collector, along with other officials is said to have reached the spot to monitor rescue operations.
