Covid recoveries outnumber new cases in Telangana

Hyderabad, May 5 (IANS) For a third consecutive day, Telangana reported more recoveries from Covid-19 than the new infections.

A total of 8,126 people recovered from Covid while 6,361 new cases were reported during the 24-hour period that ended 8 p.m. Tuesday.

With this, the cumulative number of recoveries has gone up to 3,89,491.

The recovery rate improved to 82.91 per cent against the national average of 82 per cent.

The number of active cases has also come down to 77,704. The number had crossed 80,000 early this week.

The pandemic claimed 51 more lives, pushing the cumulative death toll to 2,527. The case fatality rate stands at 0.53 per cent against the national average of 1.1 per cent.

With the fresh cases, the state's cumulative tally has gone up to 4,69,722.

Government and private laboratories tested 77,435 samples during the 24-hour period.

According to the daily media bulletin released by the health department, the state has so far conducted 1,32,67,252 tests. Samples tested per million population improved to 3,56,454.

The number of daily cases in Greater Hyderabad spiked again to 1,225. Medchal Malkajgiri and Rangareddy district adjoining Hyderabad reported 422 and 423 cases respectively.

Out of 33 districts in the state, 11 districts reported cases in double digits.

The surge in infections continued in Nalgonda district. It reported 453 new cases followed by 248 in Karimnagar, 244 in Siddipet, 239 in Suryapet, 234 in Warangal Urban, 227 in Sangareddy and 224 in Mahaboobnagar.
